West Virginia mobile sports betting to relaunch next week through DraftKings

WV Metro News reported the state lottery has completed its testing of DraftKings’ app, with the operator passing all inspections.

Lottery Director John Myers is reported to have said: “We were making sure we can get the reports out of it we need: making sure we can verify the player that has the account is the one playing and to make sure geo-location system works and those people are actually located inside the state of West Virginia.”

The lottery said it expects Hollywood Casino to undergo a soft launch of DraftKings’ app next week.

There is no sports betting app currently live in West Virginia. BetLucky, partnered with Delaware North casino, was taken offline in March following a dispute over its creation.

The case is now in court and the casino is not offering sports betting at either of its venues.

While BetLucky was live, however, it brought positive results. Myers said it outperformed retail revenue during several weeks.

With DraftKings launching next week, activity from other operators is expected to follow soon. FanDuel powers the sportsbook at The Greenbrier Casino and William Hill also has a deal in place with Hollywood Casino.
