Padres Trying to Build Momentum
The Padres are coming off an encouraging series win over the Chicago Cubs, taking two of three games at Petco Park. In their 10-2 victory on Wednesday, Jurickson Profar went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Jake Cronenworth also homered and drove in two. Dylan Cease delivered a quality start, allowing no runs on two hits over six innings with seven strikeouts.
San Diego’s offense has been solid to start the year, ranking 10th in MLB averaging 5.33 runs per game. However, consistency has been an issue as they’ve alternated good and bad series so far. The Padres are 5-6 at home but just 2-2 on the road.

All eyes will be on superstar third baseman Manny Machado, who is off to a relatively slow start batting .220. But he’s still producing runs with seven RBIs and tends to elevate his game against the Dodgers. Last season he drove in eight runs vs LA and already has three RBIs in two games against them this year.
The Padres will hand the ball to right-hander Michael King, who they acquired from the Yankees in the Juan Soto trade. King is 2-0 with a 3.14 ERA through three starts but has battled control issues with 11 walks in 14.1 innings. He struggled against the Dodgers on Opening Day, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings. King will need to limit the free passes against this dangerous LA lineup.
Dodgers Flexing Muscle at Home
Los Angeles returns home after a solid 4-2 road trip, though they did drop two of three to the Twins in their last series. The Dodgers’ elite offense was held in check a bit in Minnesota, scoring just eight total runs.
But the Dodgers have been a juggernaut at Dodger Stadium, winning their first six home games while scoring at least five runs in each contest. For the season, they rank 9th in MLB putting up 5.40 runs per game. It’s no surprise they are a top favorite in the World Series odds.

Catcher Will Smith has been on a tear to start the year, batting .412 with 12 RBIs and a .985 OPS. He feasts on Padres pitching, posting eight RBIs and a 1.100 OPS against them last season. In the two games vs San Diego this year, Smith is 3-for-12 with three driven in.
Japanese import Yoshinobu Yamamoto will make his fourth start for the Dodgers. After getting rocked for five runs in one inning by the Padres in his MLB debut in Japan, Yamamoto has bounced back with 10 scoreless frames in his last two outings with 13 strikeouts. The rookie has yet to allow a home run. He’ll look to continue his hot streak and exact some revenge on San Diego.

Padres vs Dodgers Prediction
While the Padres have shown flashes, the Dodgers have been the far more consistent team, especially at home where they have just two losses. Yamamoto looks to be finding his groove after a disastrous debut and has a good chance to stifle the San Diego bats.
Meanwhile, King’s control problems are worrisome against this patient, powerful Dodgers lineup in a hitter-friendly park. LA’s bullpen (4.61 ERA) has been shaky but still rates better than the Padres’ relief corps (5.01 ERA).
I’m backing the Dodgers on the run line at -1.5 (+110). They’ve won by multiple runs in all but three home games and have the clear pitching advantage. The total is a toss-up with both offenses capable of putting up crooked numbers, but I lean slightly to the over 8.5 at -115 with the wind blowing out.
SD vs LAD Pick:
Dodgers -1.5 (+110)
