DraftKings to take online sportsbook live in Louisiana

LouisianaDigital

After being granted approval by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB), the Bayou State will become the 17th US jurisdiction to welcome DraftKings’ online sportsbook.

The app will provide customers with a digital alternative to the operator’s retail sportsbook, which opened in November at Golden Nugget’s Lake Charles casino property.

Matt Kalish, DraftKings Co-founder and North America President, said the launch of mobile sports betting in Louisiana is a “significant milestone” for the company.

“There have been several DraftKings developments in Louisiana in the last year alone, including the debut of our daily fantasy products and retail sportsbook, and this latest online sportsbook launch is another significant milestone,” he said.

“Although Louisiana bettors have previously been able to place wagers in person at our Golden Nugget Casino Lake Charles location, the arrival of mobile betting greatly enhances accessibility and adoption potential within the Pelican State.”

The Boston-based DraftKings cited the state’s sporting reputation as a reason for fans to engage, saying “there are ample hometown fanbases and opportunities in Louisiana”.

Since the launch of its retail sportsbook, the company said NFL teams have attracted the most wagers from local bettors. In particular, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs and LA Rams have taken the most action.

And responsible gaming is also a “key pillar” of DraftKings’ Louisiana rollout.

The company remarked: “DraftKings is an active member of the American Gaming Association (AGA) and the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), and has tools like self-imposed player limits, identity verification and geolocation to ensure all customers are provided with a secure and safe gaming experience.”
